Upper Lachlan Shire Council
Community & Civic Centre
Spring St, Crookwell NSW 2583
Value : $ 8.1 M Development Application: 2019
In 2018, Mayoh Architects were engaged to design a new Community and Civic Centre for the Upper Lachlan Shire Council in Crookwell, NSW. The Council is undertaking public consultation prior to the submission of the Development Application. The project is of particular significance to Peter Mayoh, the Founding Director of Mayoh Architects, who divides his time between Sydney and his family farm at Roslyn. Peter’s grandfather, J.T. Dooley, purchased the farm 100 years ago. He served as Shire President for 1 term and a Councillor for 16 years.
The new Council Chambers will be designed as a multi-purpose space, suitable for conferences, performances, and other community uses when not in use as the Council Chambers. Key considerations that have informed the design include Heritage character, community use, contemporary workspaces, and sustainability.
Restoring the Town’s History
The original Bank of New South Wales and Council Chambers are two Heritage significant buildings which will bookend the proposed contemporary additions. The Bank building is to be refurbished and extended to accommodate offices for Council staff. The original Council Chambers building and proposed extension will become the new Civic Centre.
