Byng Street Boutique Hotel
Orange, NSW
62 Byng St, Orange NSW
Value : $ 7.5 M Construction Completed: 2019
The project involved the adaptive reuse of an existing two-storey heritage house, with a new extension at the rear. The Hotel includes 22 guest rooms, a conference room, a kitchen as well as guest lounge and dining spaces.
The design concept for the hotel is focused on an existing copper beech tree located near the existing house. A double-height glass entry foyer allows guests to glimpse views of the tree upon arriving at the hotel. The guest lounge is screened with rusted steel panels, perforated with geometric patterns to reinterpret the leaves of the beech tree. All other materials are neutral colour, to ensure focus is drawn back to the heritage house and landscape.

Preserving History: Yallangah's Transformation
Yallangah, designed and built in 1896 by renowned local architect William Lamrock for his family, was meticulously restored to its former glory. The renovation project involved careful preservation of original architectural details, including intricate woodwork and period features, while modernizing the interior to meet contemporary standards. This thoughtful restoration ensured that Yallangah's historic charm was maintained, creating a beautiful and welcoming space for guests.
A Delightful Surprise
“With the help of Peter Mayoh of Mayoh Architects, not only is the extension an architectural delight, it also provides the opportunity for guests to decide whether they would like to stay within the lovingly restored heritage home, or in the comfort of the contemporary wing,”
